power brakes for a 62
i've seen a lot of pics with people useing newer brake boosters. what would be a good one to use? also how difficult is the change over? thanks mike

that depends if you still are using the clutch master cylinder still.

Just finished mine...
I just put discs and a power setup on my 65. If your 62 has torsion bars, I don't know exactly what difference that will make. I got all the parts from an early 70s gmc 1500, 71 or 72. Everything bolted up perfectly with the following exceptions. To make the tie rods work I used the 65 inners and sleeves, for the outers I used the 71s, but had to turn them down and put the left handed thread on. A machineshop can do that for about 30 bucks each. The later model ball joints fit the control arms no problem. The only other problem was the rod that connects the pedal to the booster. Had to extend it a little. Otherwise everything fit great and it was just a bolt in and plumb the lines deal. Hope this helps, -Noah

There's 2 ways you can go with disc brakes on a 1960-62 gm truck.
The first way is to keep the torsion bar setup, and use after market dropped spindles, and mount either 5 or 6 lug rotors up front. Or the weay I i'm eventually going with so I can bag my truck is to use the font suspension out of a 1971-72 or 1973-87 gm truck, and bolt it up, and drill the 4 extra holes. I've been pondering how to keep the clutch master cylinder setup with power brakes. It can be done by using a single slave cylinder seperate from the brake booster, or use the mechanical clutch linkage out of the 1963-72 gm trucks. When installing the master cylinder with brake booster, you'll have to drill 1 or 2 new holes for the bracket to mount to the firewall. Make sure you use the push rod for that year & type of vehicle you use it from for proper operation. David

thanks for the info chevyboy. do you know if it has to be a half ton booster or can i use a 3/4 or 1 ton?
