305 TBI to 350 carb
Looks like I might actually be able to use some money for the truck (about time). I'm looking at the Chevy crate motors, just want the basic 350. How much am I going to have to change to go to a 350 with a carb from my current 305 TBI. I know the fuel pump will have to change (that would make fuel pump #8 on the truck). If I've got the bucks to spare, I want to rebuild or replace the 700r4 while I'm at it.
1) What will I need to do with the computer? New chip? toss it? 2) What all 'extras' am I going to need to buy along with the crate motor that I can't use from my 305? Carb obviously, but what else? 3) How much should I be looking at to spend on the crate motor? Any tips and advice will be greatly appreciated! BTW, I'm back to the pavement business, hauling epoxy in my truck and working on driveways in the 100 degree heat. Nice pay but no time for much else. I'll try to make it in more often though.

Why not use the TBI on the new engine? If it is basicly stock you should only have to change the chip. This would avoid all those nasty problems that arise with carburetors and give you more h.p. Also pretty much all of the accessories off of your 305 should go on your 350.

With the history I've had with this TBI I'm ready to be rid of it. If I was to stay with TBI I'd replace it, don't want to do that with something I'm not happy with.

Or I'll take it. If you keep the TBI, I could burn you a new chip...

With the overwhelming response I've gotten, mostly in person, added to the replies here, I'm second guessing tossing fuel injection altogether. I've always wanted TPI, so if the cost isn't too great, I may go with that. I'm looking for a reliable complete setup, always wary of ebay offerings. I may need to take you up on the chip offer Greg. And I will be selling the TBI setup once the swap is done.

Have you looked into Edelbrock's Multi-Point fuel injection system for 87-95' trucks?

The more I read about TBI vs TPI and swapping, I realize the performance change is nowhere near worth the headache of the swap. I guess I'm doing a total 180 now and looking into keeping TBI. It sucks to be flaky.
