BBC is in>>>Pics>>
Hello Everyone, a while back I was here asking about adapting a 73+ engine crossmember to my 72 K5 for my SBC to BBC swap. Well I did it and thought I would share some pics..they are kinda dark, sorry. TOo much black paint...
Cain't wait to drive my K5 again The Xmember was kinda tuff to get in and lined up but it did fit. Now I will beable to remove the oil pan without lifting the engine Burt

Nice! Did you have any firewall problems or did the cross member solve that problem?

I did have to bang bang on the firewall a lil bit, but not too bad. The crossmembers main function is to allow the oil pan to be dropped with out moving the engine. Well that and the ORD engine mounts work too
Sooooon...

Burt, can you get a close up pic from the side showing the frame and engine so I can get an idea of how high your engine is sitting? I'm wondering if the new crossmember your using allows the engine to sit lower than if you had used your stock crossmember and mounts. I just happen to now have a crossmember from a 78 4x4 that I could use if that would help my situation, I definitely want to drop my cab down a bit.

Looking Good
I'm not familiar with your fuel delivery system. Can you explain type and requirements as well as expected gains over stock quadrajet to a rookie?

Hey Cheyenne10, What you see there is EdelBrock Multi-Point Fuel Injection.
The intake comes complete with everything needed to convert a carbed rig into FI. This unit comes with a hand held controll box so no need for a laptop to tune it. I hear tuning is or can be a pain...I guess I'm gonna find out. But like everything once it's set right then time to ROCK!! Oh ya the version I got in the Performer type(idel to 5500) not the high reving RPM version. This rat was built for all lowend torque, yer basic stump puller

That FI looks sick. I may also go that way when I rebuild my motor. One thing I'm curiuos about, do you need to build the motor differently for FI versus carb?

Well yes and no. FI does like higher compressions but you can bolt this set to an orginally carbed engine with no changes. Edelbrock will need to know the cam specs inoreder to burn the chip that goes in the computer to run the FI.
This 454 was built around the MPFI intake. The whole engine was built to the specs for lowend torque & fuel injection. CompCams recomended the cam grind to match the lowend torque and fuel injection. I ended up with at least 9:1.1compression(engine guy said with the oversized valves he used will increase the compresion simply due to there size reducing the chamber volume..or something like that hahahaa. This is my first build up so I am still learning all the gearhead talk and stuff

Ok, so I better decide bt FI or Carb before I start the build. I'm thinking along the same lines as you, more torque, but will rebuild my 350. Thanks
