Body Work questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ok, I have the bed off and in it's respective pieces. I am using the DA sander to remove the paint, primer, and bondo. I'm going down to the bare metal.

Mind you, this is the first time I've done this. I have heard mention of some kind of spray that you put on once you have removed all the paint etc that removes rust and prevents further corrosion. Some one toss me a clue on this. So if we look at it in layers from the metal up...we have metal, the mystery spray, primer, paint, clear coat.........Help please.

Go to the body/paint section of the board. Plenty of professional help there. Also check out anything by Martinsr in the FAQ's.

That spray stuff doesn't really work IMO,I tried it,and it was bubbling back through in less than a year,the only way to really fix it is cut it out,and weld new metal in,then primer,paint,clear coat

So Brainchild, basically I need to sand the crap out of the rusted spots, or do something to get the rust off before I prime?

We use "Must For Rust" and it works well. Usually more than one application is needed and if the rust is too heavy it needs to be removed.

Another product i've had good luck with is RUST MORT. It removed the rust from my bed floor which was pitted. John
