When you have a spare hour, read this thread-Crosmember drop It will enlighten you on adding a rack to our trucks. I don't recommend Bill Turner, but there are other sources out there....

I managed to read 12-13 pages of it I dont think cnverting to a rack is worth it it seems like people in that thread are converting to rack because the steering box is hitting before the frame..... You cant win with the steering boxes on these trucks its hard to go beyond a 39.5 inch tire when lifting unless you convert

I used a different route to convert my 82 2wd Blazer. I am having a complete IFS front end installed that includes a R&P. It's a bit of an extreme way to get what I wanted, but the Blazer is going to be a bit more than average any way.

Talk to Chris (Capt. Kaos) about modding an X-member for you. The stock box will work with his X-member, or you can get an improved box from AGR Performance steering

Is there any difference between the rack and pinions on a 1/2 ton and a 3/4 or 1 ton truck?

Has anyone tried to convert the original style steering to a rack and pinion style on the 3/4 or 1 ton 67-72 year trucks?

from what I understand in the other threads posted, the only conversions at this point have been on 1/2 ton trucks

you are contradicting yourself. I know that they did not come from the factory w/ a r and p style steering. I was wondering if there is a difference
between a 3/4 ton and 1/2 ton rack and pinion components?

I want to make a lift kit for my truck. the only thing that is keeping me from the install is the steering. Can I install a r and p steering on my 3/4 ton truck???

It doesnt seem like a good idea to convert to Rp on a lifted truck i am not even sure where you would get a rack that could take that abuse.

dont worry about tire rub on the box unless you plan on going with bigger then 39.5 tires and if you were i would go with hydrosteer instead
