Repops or Originals
I know, I know, it's been discussed thousands of times, but all it's done is confuse me. I am absolutely 50/50 on this decision. Take chances with reproduction fenders, or spend time/money fixing originals?

im 50/50 also should you spend money fixing a orginal or by the time you have put money into the orginal you could have bought a new one???

I used to swear by originals but if you're on the east coast you get tired of the rust coming back through. My re-pops (front and back) are perfect and fit perfect.

I voted originals but it depends on the shape of the fenders. If it's got rust holes all in it I'd go for repros if I could afford it. If not, just grind/cut out the bad spots and weld new metal in, which is what I'm going to do with mine.

it comes down to the budget and what you are willing to live with.
It just does not make sense not to use a quality reproduction item, especially when it is cheaper in the long run to use repop items.
These trucks are not rare or special, they are an expression of the owners automotive opinions. Originality is not an issue with the majority of our trucks. Now in another 10-15 years a low mileage cst might be deserving of using original or nos body parts similar to say restoring a 1950's cameo truck. Also quality body parts further add to the argument for using repops. I also own a corvette that is a driver and enjoyed car. Some of the vette guys are restoring these late 70's corvettes down to water clamps and stickers. Their cars will never be what the stingrays from 60's are as far as collectible status and highly sought after. But, when all is said to get back on subject, the budget is what determines this decision most of the time.

Why in your poll it says goodmark? when it should say Tri Plus, Tri Plus makes the fenders and other 67-72 sheetmetal parts not goodmark.

I say that if you have the tools, resources and time, definately fix the originals. Replacement panels are usually really cheap as opposed to buying, say, a whole fender or something. Some of these guys can attest that there are some companies that make really good replacement panels and some just don't.
It's all a matter of preference. Either way the truck looks pretty in the end

If I could find rust free originals, I would go that route. I bought repops for mine, and one fits good, and the other doesn't. But, they aren't tri-plus either, and I've heard many times that they are the best.

I forgot to mention that on this here truck there is both a tri-plus door and a fender.
The mentality out here is that if there is a small spot of rust on anything its a rust bucket and its not worth it to fix it. Oh, I am originally from Pennsy, so I know what true rust is all about. Buy the Tri-plus. |

I have found that You spend as much time trying to get originals to line up as You do repops.There are a lot of varibles in a 30 year old truck.I used tri plus fenders and core support.I didn't run into any problems.
