Engine problems...
Hello all. My name is John and I found this site while searching for parts for my newly aquired 1987 Chevy Silverado K10. My grandfather gave it to me as a gift, which I greatly appreciate.
However I have a problem with the engine. Whenever I'm driving it, weather the engine is cold or warmed up, the engine seems to bog down in 2nd gear. First gear has great torque, but when it shifts to second, it bog's down to the point where it almost stalls. Once I get off the gas and then ease back on, it eventually goes. The engine is the 305ci V8 5.0L with TBI. I don't know if the TBI is acting up or what. I'm only 17 and I have a general knowledge of engines, but this baffle's me. Could there possibly be an air leak? Is it possible to clean the injectors on TBI engines? Any help is great. Thanks in advance. PS- If anyone has any suggestions on performance upgrades to raise the HP some, I'm open to them. I already am planning on getting a cat-back dual exhaust system after christmas. I love the sound of those. |

Engine Bogging
I am no mechanic by no means, but I would start with a new fuel filter. My 87 has done this to me before, and a new filter fixed the problem for me.

Id also check the fuel filter first. May fix the problem, and if it does it will save you alot of time and work by not having to try other stuff.

just a thought, don't get mad, if you want to up the horsepower, yank the 305 and get a 350. I never liked the output of a 305. They all say that K&N filters add a little horse power, As you are though I am always open to new economical horsepower tips, I am going to build a 400+ hp 383, at least I hope I can afford to, I am open for tips on the best way to do this.
