What's It Worth?
I'm trying to get a replacement cost value for my insurance policy. 1970 Blazer, 250 6 cylinder, 3 speed, manual hubs, interior needs replaced. 72000 original miles, body excellent, only rust is inside flanges that the sill plates hook over. Runs and drives great, no power steering or brakes. I have asked this ? before, all I get is offers to buy it. Does $6000 sound too high. Just don't know if I could find another one in this shape for that kind of cash. Thanks all.

That doesn't sound high for insurance purposes. I'd think 6000 to 7500 would be in line.
When I had my 71 Burb appraised (in 1995) at the insurance office I was hoping to insure it for $5000. I had just paid $3500 for it. I figured they would low-ball me a value but they actually came back at $7500. It was unrestored with minimal rust anywhere and running decent. And by the way, do you want to sell it??? oh never mind, the 250/3spd and the fact that it isn't Ochre in color are deal breakers for me.

Thanks for the input. Believe it or not, I live 70 miles from MONTROSE Colorado! I used to have a 70 Burb, gold with white top, 3 seats, bought from original owners family. Paid 75 bucks for it with a cracked 350 engine. This one had the rear air that actually worked till one of the original hoses blew inside the back corner of the body-instant fog at 70mph. Did you know that the front spindles are oddballs? If I remember right, one balljoint is 1/2 ton and the other is 3/4 ton.

Here's one reference.
In VT when we register an 'old' vehicle, they bring out a vintage car book and go by the stated value's to find tax amounts. The last truck I registered was a 70 swb 4x4 fleet, here's what the book stated our trucks were going for. Low book:$4,300.00 Average: $8,600.00 Good: $12,050.00 Excellent: $21,500.00 These are a direct copy from the book that VT dmv, bases licensing fees on. |

Now that realy sucks do they still charge you that if you have a sales slip that says differnt .

"one balljoint is 1/2 ton and the other is 3/4 ton." To make it even more confusing. I think this is only if you have the 3rd row seat. The 9 passenger suspension is beefed up while the 6 passenger is not.
