someone tried to steal my truck!
well the '84 has been sitting a couple weeks since it fouled out some plugs. i went and got a new set of plugs and some 10-30 valvoline and a wix filter, i figured i'd get her running real good and start driving it a little more. so i go out to start her up and take it out to the shop and notice the vent window looks a little messed up. i look on the inside and the vent window frame is all bent out of place and there a pry marks from a screwdriver or something all over it. there is nothing of value inside the truck and its not tinted so its easy to see that there is no stereo or anything so i'm pretty sure they were trying to steal the whole truck. i dont know what to do at this point, it got keyed two weeks ago and now this.i live in an apartment right now, me and some friends are getting a house next fall so our stuff will be more secure. i really kind of wish this guy would have got inside because once he started it i damn sure would have woke up and went out and plinked his ass with some .22 LR as thats the only firearm i have handy right now

Geez man, you dont have the luck at all. I would get under the hood and disable something when you arent driving the truck. Whenever My brother would go out of town, he would disconnect the coil on his truck.

Damn, you’re lucky. Theses old trucks are easy to steal.
When I think of Bryan, College Station I never equate it with crime. I guess it can happen anywhere. I feel for ya. Apartment living is a pain in the @ss!

I have noticed two times in the past 2 months , someone has pushed open my wing window as well. and there IS Plenty to steal in there. SInce it sits so much I have contemplated taking out the stereo stuff and putting it in my Wifes truck for now. I need to redo some wiring anyhow. People have no respect.

i'm just going to keep it parked right in front of my apartment instead of the back corner away from all the other cars like i had it. hopefully that will keep people from messing with it until we can get a house. i can keep it out at the shop on about 50 acres of land where no one will mess with it at all but its 20 miles outside of town and chances are i would never drive it, i barely drive it as it is sitting right out front

So how can you break into the vent window with it being locked? Mine is shaved and I don't have poppers on it but I want to be able to lock it and just open it and no one will know how. I usually just leave the vent window unlocked, but with no tint it's easy to see it's unlocked.

Its easy to get in through a locked vent window on any of these trucks. I locked the keys in my truck in the driveway, so I went and got my next door neighbor who is a locksmith and he had this "tool" and it took him all of 5 to 10 secs to unlock and open the vent window. After he left I made one like it and threw it in the bed of the truck where it stays. No one would ever guess what its for unless they knew, and I've used it several times. Pretty nice living next to a locksmith, he never charges me for anything.

A great theft preventative is to take 2 old coil wire boots and put a piece of vacuum hose between them the same length as your coil wire. When you are parking the truck for a couple of days, replace the real coil wire with the fake one.
1: No thief will spend the time to troubleshoot your ride before stealing it. 2: U might hear them and have fun beating down a lowlife, and 3: If not caught, they will think your ride is crap and not try again |

My theft deterrence? Crappy original paint job, and swiss cheese rocker panels, all accented by a cinderblock holding an old billboard down as my bed

Anyway, I guess such trucks are an easy target because their easy to get into and steal, but parts aren't worth much, so I don't know what their thinking You can't steal something from my house, I got two dogs and a few fire-arms plus if I feel like going William Wallace on them I got a 54" claymore, which is sharp!

Put it in a mini storage or something like that. Somewhere you can lock it up.
