will a 305 chevy oil pan fit a chevy 350 oil pan
ok,guys and gals, here is my problem i just changed the oil in my s10 it has a 350 engine block code which we all know that it is located on the bell on the driverside which reads 3970010 which the engine code inditfied it as a 1968 3970010 327 - - 2 A
1969-79 3970010 350 185 370 2 or 4 car, truck, Vette and when i changed the oil i put a gallon of the castrol gtx which is 5 quarts that equals 4.73 liters, and on my dip stick it shows about a quart over full which the only thing i could think of is either they put a 305 oil pan on the engine before they put it in the s10 or the dipstick is to short, and my question is. will a 305 sb oil pan fit a 350 sb or are they the same sump, and how can i tell the difference between a 350 or 305 oilpan the oilpan is a factory oil pan not aftermarket, or is my chrome dipstick to short, thanks all ,,i know you all will help me on this ,,,,,,,,,,,this board is the best, :

a question...
When you changed the oil, you changed the filter.......right? Lets say you did- did yo start it up before you checked it? With your filter empty, you would be 'bout quart over.

A gallon is 4 quarts
305 and 350 oil pans are the same capacity and will interchange if the years are close or the same. No way to tell the difference. SBC stock pans usually hold 5 quarts. If your dipstick was to short it would read low instead of overfull. Did you run the motor first and then recheck it? Unless you filled the filter before you put it on, the engine has to pump oil in it to fill it. That's probably where you're getting the overfull reading.
