Dual tank switching valve?
I was just wondering have any of you had any problems with this valve. I actually think it is trying to draw fuel from both tanks, I mean like it is stuck in the middle. Do yall think this is possible and when you replace them do any aftermarket ones like the ones you buy at carquest work well? Or should I go and buy it from a chevrolet dealership? I appreciate any help, thanks...Mike

Mike;
As worn out as my 78 K10 is, I've never had any problems with the valve in the 10 years that I've owned it. That being said, I did score a NOS one on ebay for about $35.00 just in case. I don't know about the quality of the aftermarket ones, but the GM aren't cheep. If you need the GM part number, let me know. Doug |

Buy an A/C Delco valve. Same thing as the factory valve. I paid about $68 for mine.

I got my fuel tank valve from the Sam Taylor dealership in Florida. He has reasonable prices and shipping costs. Gave 'bout $65 for it. I got a part number if you still need it.

For some reason the PO of my truck only used one of my tanks and I assumed it was the switching valve, but turns out it was just the switch, the tank that wasn't being used was full of gas, but who knows how old it was lol.
I would go with an A/C Delco part also, the crap made in hong kong or taiwan sucks.

You also might also change out the switch in the cab as well. I've changed all mine out with a problem that led to a single wire issue.

My valve has never let me down but when I first got the truck, the dual tanks did not work.
I assumed it might be the valve so went to the Chevy place to get a new one. The parts guy told me that most of the time........it is the switch. He was right and after $15 or so for a new switch it has been working great 10+ years. You can hear the valve cycle when you flip the switch.........kinda like a grinding noise for less than a second...........do you hear this? |
