Carb Spacer ??'s
i've got an old edelbrock intake (sp2p) with a 1406 leaned for the altitude (reno, nv). would adding a carb spacer help with anything, if so what thickness? throttle response? power? mileage? when first got the truck, it had a carter with a spacer. thanks.

The farther u can get your carb from a heat source is better.............

yep heat is bad for the carb especially edelbrock and carters they hate the heat extange from the intake. I would go with a 1" Phenolic or plastic spacer.

A spacer will help gain a little more Low end Torque.. Depending how thick the spacer is. Along with what's said above.

Lots of variables. Car craft did this a couple years ago, and it turns out there is no definate answer, just all depends on the comb, condition, state of tune...ect.
However, they were pretty hard pressed to NOT have good results. |

ok, so a spacer is good...with the 1406 should i use the spacer with individual 4 holes or the open square? does the material make a big difference (plastic or aluminum)? thanks again.

4 hole to keep left and right seperated, also make sure gaskets aren't open, use 4 hole design to match carb/spacer. Open spacer reduces signal to carb, not good for
low end torque. |

Get the composite one, It looks like plastic, It will keep the heat away from the carb. better... And a one inch will suffice.
K&N makes one I think they call a velocity stack. It's supposed to speed up the flow to give more Air to the Intake ?? |

The phenolic spacers with the sleeved mounting holes to prevent gasket collapse under torque are great and necessary to insulate the carb & fuel inside it from the intake's heat which would heat, if not vaporlock the fuel. But the 1" or 2" spacers sold as performance enhancers are garbage. They don't do anything because they don't change the angle of the intake's runners. They're a big marketing scheme, like many "high perf" aftermarket items (K&N air filters, low-ohm-per-foot ignition wires, tornado, fuel magnets, etc.)
