Hello from Iowa
I've been lurking here for a couple of years, but have never posted. Well anyway, hate to start with a question, but... I just went and looked at a 71 custom/10 350/3 speed, SWB. The 3 on the tree has been moved to the floor, does anybody know the shift pattern for this?

three on the tree moved to floor used to be down to left for 1st , to right and up 2nd then down for 3rd. reverse is straight up from 1st ,or left and up.

Thanks for the responses. I know that up and to the Left is reverse, and down and left is a foward gear. When ever I shift to the right, it's just really mushy, doesn't really feal like it's going into gear but it does. Although when it does, it seems to be like it's just stuck in one foward gear. I'm really interested in this truck, but I've been burnt before on a car "I just had to have"

If the price is right, I would buy it anyway and have it checked out to make sure. Sometimes those shifters can be tricky to set up if you don't know what your doing. You can install them with the wrong linkage arm and even though they work, they don't work well. Three speed trannys are easy pickin's if thats the issue. The linkage can also be hooked up backward so down to the left is 2nd and down to the right is Reverse.
By the way, Welcome from Tenn.

Great point 68stepbed. Other than 4 wheel drive, what more could I ask for? Has short bed, V8, and setup for a gear grabber. The frame looks like it's in great shape. The trailing arms look really good, it needs a some tlc but for the money, I could do a lot worse. I guess now I just have to convence the master of the checkbook...

I think you might have an argument with my teenage stepson on that one.
