Rear Glass
Hi folks. Need to replace my rear glass on my 80 Silverado. Is this difficult? Any special tools (or tips) from anyone? Also - if anyone knows of a place to get a good one, let me know. Thanks.

Get a long heavy string to use to put the glass and the rubber gasket back in with. Put the string around the gasket (in the groove that fits onto the cab metal). Use the string on the inside of the cab like a zipper to pull the gasket into the cab as someone holds the window assembly up to the outside of the frame. This make the hard part of getting the glass back into the truck easy. There are specvial tools for putting the rubber rib back into the gasket easy, but it can be done with a screw driver and some care.

ive found using a pair of medium flat head screwdrivers works well ya start inside the cab in the upper corner and work your way around the window they fall out easy you may want someone to stand in the bed to catch it when it falls out

When you "rope it in", spray the channel of the weatherstripping real good with glass cleaner...it will make the rope slide out and the gasket slide in soo much easier.

I'm south of FW. You are north of Dallas. Probably about 80 or 90 miles.
Not sure what years are interchangeable. |
