Is there any difference in the 133" and 157" 1 tons besides the obvious length?Is there any pros or cons to either?thanks,Bobby

I think the difference would be more in the GVW rather than the WB. It also depends on what you plan to do with the vehicle.

Depends on what you wanna do with it. Longer WB for towing, shorter WB for rigging out a welder's truck for example.

I was thinking about building a tow truck eventually, but haven't really seen too many around here to compare.Would the suspension from an 85 1 ton bolt into a 67-72 1 ton?thanks again,Bobby

Seems to me the 157 wheel base use a different style leaf pack. My 72 1 ton with 133 inch wheel base 1 ton has a 7 main and 6 leaf aux. The 157 use 8 and 1 in aux. The 157 typically have a high GVW in 1970 and up..the 133 are rarer to find the high GVW..Im taking 14000 lbs max gvw.

For a tow truck using a cradle only you'd probably like the 133 inch for the shorter conditons needed in some towing application hook ups.
With the 157 you could use it as a car hauler on a deck.

There are some differences on the size of the channel for the frames too on the higher GVW ones.

From what I've seen the 9/16 wheel stud pattern started in 1970 on some editions of these 1 tons. Might be easier to find wheels for that diameter hub.

So knowing all that ..well you can see why I grabbed up the 1 ton I have...it was exactly what I wanted..and it wasn't easy to find.

Thanks Rod for the info.I found a 68 model and a 72 model, both with 157" wb.I think I may try to buy both and see which one I like more.I also have an 85 1 ton that I was thinking of parting and using the running gear for the 68,so I would have the disc brakes.Does anyone know if it would be a direct bolt-in?Don't have the trucks here to compare.thanks again for the help guys.Bobby

Not sure..dont play with anything that new.
I got a 77 duallie myself I could carve away at but never attempted too yet. I'm pretty sure the 77 will go if I drill more holes for the saddle..but I have more of an interest of making it a 4x4 one day. I grabbed my Dana 60 front already after a couple year search for decently priced one. Just need the brackets..I thought I bought a set off the board but never heard back yet from the seller.
