my turn for show and tell..

Well I have been making some progress on Yeller as of late. A couple weekends ago I got the drivetrain back in the frame (for the second time), and since then, I have been adding the necessary components...as time and money allow. I have painted and installed the Sanderson headers, painted the Alan Grove brackets and put on the alternator, and installed the Lokar dipstick. Friday I finally received my valve covers, so I had to throw them on along with my carb and aircleaner to see how it all looks. Now I realize I need a drop base air cleaner since it looks rather tall and hood clearance might be an issue. Today I ran my fuel line from the cell to the pump, and will begin shoerly running it from the pump to the carb.

Anyhow, just wanted to give an update since a few of you have been asking, and now that I have something to show.

BTW - please ignore the dusty frame, it will get washed soon.

Jeff that looks killer. I'm glad to see someone getting further along with their project. It looks like you need one of the Chevrolet breather lids that match the valve covers...

Matt, yes, it is in primer right now. I sandblasted the chrome cover and wanted something on there until I got around to painting it. Ken, my cover is similar...but instead of using something like the one you posted, I might just powdercoat mine black to match the valve covers...and the jury is still out on if I want to paint the word Chevrolet silver or just leave it black. I don't want too much going on under the hood...I want simple and nothing to jump out at you.

I have a rusty chrome air cleaner on my coupe, which is about the same color as your truck. It is the only chrome on the whole car. I was wondering if I could sandblast the chrome off, and paint it black. Thanks for trying it first.

The truck looks great. I can't wait to see it together.

I like simple. I don't really do chrome, and NO billet.

how's the clearance between the driver's side valve cover and the brake booster? I had trouble and went to the short gm covers with a thick moroso rubber gasket so I could service the valve train without removing the booster.

This pic doesn't show much, but I have enough clearance to get the covers in and out pretty easily. I think the wedge shape of these covers helps out with the issue you mentioned.

Congrats man!! Its a good feeling to get something done. Bad thing is that all my hold ups seem to come from vendors I deal with. Parts, powder coating, etc, etc.

Bluex, they look close, but are actually a couple inches off the firewall...plenty of room. BTW, give any more thought about that article?

Steven, I have a LONG ways to go...but I hope to fire the motor in a couple/few weeks.

Slonaker, blasting the chrome will work, you won't get it down to bare metal, but it will be etched enough for the primer/paint to stick just fine.

Phantom, I have those hang ups too...believe me!

Yes I do, but I had a virus sometime ago and lost all the pictures I had from the swap. I lost others too, mostly of my son, I still kick myself about not backing them up.....
