Starter and ring gear

I have a 77 K20, 350 with a 4-speed. A while back my truck started giving me starting issues. There were no signs or anything leading up to the problem, it just started. Anyway, things got progressively worse, and now I need a new ring gear cuz mine has a few teeth chewed up, maybe even more then a few. Anyway, where can I find a new ring gear of good quality and good price? Also, what can I do to avoid having the same problems? I tried shims, I tried new starter bolts, I just don't know what to do. Any advice would be greaty appreciated.

-Brandon

Also, any tips on replacing the ring gear with ease?

LMC Truck carries them. They are not that difficult to change. I watched a buddy of mine swap them for me on my flywheel. Just used a torched and heated up the ring gear, and tapped it off with a wooden mallet. Same thing to get it on... good luck...

Where did the starter come from? Certain suppliers have crappy starter becuase the reface the mounting surface forcing you to use shims. Most of the time they can't be shimmed properly.

As to why it just started, no clue.

On the ring gear. I am lazy. I would just buy another flexplate.
