RH Brake Light Does Not Work????
Okay, at first neither brake light would come on. The running lights and blinkers work. I disconnected the stop light switch under the dash and used a jumper and the LH brake light came on. I went today and bought a new stop light switch. I'm about to go put it in. Does anyone know why the other brake light would not work. Where does the circuit split? thanks.

turn signal switch.
That's where it splits, and that's most likely where your problem is since the blinker works. That tells you that the wire and bulb and socket are all good. |

Not trying to be a smart ass, honest, but you didn't mention checking the bulb itself, could be blown??? Don't the tail/brake lights work off of one of the fillaments and the turn signal off the other??? If it's not the aforementioned, I had a similar problem. Turns out my bulb ends and the sockets were corroded so they weren't getting a good connection. I ended up shoving sandpaper in the light socket the best I could and replaced the bulbs. They work now. I have recently purchased a set of stepside LED's from PICKMUP, but haven't had a chance to install them due to my truck being 2 hours away at a family members home. I'll post some pics someday of the lighting difference if I ever get around to it.

Brakes and turnsignals work off one filament and the tail lights off the other. Longhornman is probably right, the turnsignal switch is a common problem. Chris

My GMC gave me a hard time figuring it out. I had no brake lights, but the turn signals worked. The first YEAR of driving it was day light only... I used the parking lights when ever I hit the brakes.
Finally figured it out, and now I see the problem all the time and know where to look. Ever noticed the Corsicas and barettas out there with the third brake lamp working, but not the 2 regular ones...then when they hit there turn signal the lights work.... ? VERY common on thiose cars. |

And gentlemen...the correct answer is the turn signal switch. I just sat there and played with it. I wiggled the turn signal and the brake light works. It's pretty nasty looking inside the steering column. I still have to tighten down my new stop light switch, but after that I need to clean up that turn switch assembly.
Thanks...Longhorn Man!
