Hi Y'all.
I'm a new member. I have a '58 3/4 ton with a foot starter. About a month ago it spun one of the rod bearings and I'm thinking of replacing the 235 6 cyl with a small block V-8. However, I really like the foot starter and was wondering if anyone knows if I can retain the foot starter while swapping the motor?

Welcome to the fourms EricOlsen!

The foot starter should just be an electric switch (at least my ol 46 was this way). Therefore its only a matter of getting the wire to the starter/cyl.
I would think it would be easier to KEEP it as a foot start.

in my '59 3/4 ton the foot starter was basically a pedal with a mechanical linkage that pushed a button on the starter. you could find a starter button and mount it where the starter pedal was. it would be wired between the ignition and the starter.

The starters are not interchangable that I know of... so the switch would have to be wired without the mechanical device that touches down on the starter to run the solenoid. my 2-cents worth rico_bob

I have seen the conversion you want , but for thr life of me I can't remember where it was. They do make one and if I find it again I'll post where. it was a conversion for a modern GM starter to be able to continue using the pedal and on off switch setup.
