Another Manual Steering Box Question
The interchange on a manual steering box for my '72 C-10 as I understand it is '68 to '87 (Remember, I am staying with MANUAL).
My question is: What makes a '67 Manual Steering Box not work? (As luck has it, I have one of these available on a parts truck). Any info would be appreciated. |

No idea, but if you need one, I have a 71 manual box with a really good pitman arm on it.

I may have offered before, if so, forgive me. I have a '68 manual gearbox with pitman arm in great shape also. I think there are only bearings in there with a wheel and grease. I'm not entirely sure. I just heard to be careful when you crack em open because bearings will roll all over the place.

The only thing I've heard about '67 frames is that they don't have a dimple in them that is required for mounting a power steering box, and some people have run into problems when they try to mount a power steering box on a '67 frame. I had a '67 truck (definitely a '67 because the VIN on the frame matched the VIN plate) and mounted a power steering box from a '76-ish truck on it with no problems, so I'm a little confused about this dimple issue. If a newer gearbox fit on my '67, I can't see any reason why a '67 manual gearbox wouldn't work on a '68-'72 frame, although I have never actually tried. I removed a manual gearbox from a '70 frame, and as far as I could remember, it looked the same as the manual gear box I removed from my '67.

The 67 box should be the exact same. There was some goofy stuff with the power steering in 67 that used a manual box, so perhaps that is why it says that. When I bought a 71 complete front end to put under my 67 it had a manual box that was the exact same as my 67 box.
