Electric tailgate window question

i have been looking for a electric tailgate for my blazer and have ran into a few at the junk yard, but i am not sure if the window motor works, or the window is rolled all the way up and i cannot bring the window down to even open the gate. is there a way to roll down the window without hooking up a battery to the car? if i connect a car battery to the wires direct to the window motor is it too much volts? any help would be appreciated

Re: Electric tailgate window question

One way to get the window up or down without power is to take the cable off of the motor and chuck it up in a cordless drill. The drill should have enough torque to drive the window up or down and give you an idea of the actual mechanical portion of the regulator is OK. At that point you could remove the assembly and take it up to the office to power it up and make sure the motor works.

Most yards I've been to will have a battery to test with or send you to the dismantling shop to test it there.

Re: Electric tailgate window question

With all the problems that seem to popup with them I would stay with the old crank type. Sure wished I had swaped mine out.

I had a problem with mine and it turned out to be the cable going from the motor to the crank mechanism. You can remove the cable from the crank side and slide a small flat headed screw driver into it and it will allow you to roll it up and down. Cable was 32 bucks from the dealer.
