stupid question
How to tell the difference between long and short water pump? Think mine is long never seen a short I dont think(pic anyone?)

The back of a short pump will almost touch the timing cover--long has a bigger space between them.

A Short Water Pump is 5 7/8"and were pre'68. Long Water Pump is 7 1/4",('69-'85) This is for cars. Not sure if the truck years were the same for long and short, but the measurement is the same

7 1/4 inch to front of pulley? I can fit my fingers between the timing cover and the back of pump?

yes. If you can fit your finger between the pump and timing cover it is a long pump.
