Greetings from Aledo, TX
Howdy,
Wanted to say Hi and ask a couple of questions. My '71 GMC is 100% original down to the split rim wheels (see avitar). It has rear leaf springs that the glove box sticker lists that as an option. My question is, was that a common option or were coil springs more common on a 3/4 ton? Second question, would I be a total idiot for putting the 4x4 drivetrain from my Suburban under this truck as oposed to a total restoration?

Re: Greetings from Aledo, TX
Welcome from Rowlett (Dallas area).
They did use leafs & coils on 3/4 ton trucks but as for which one is more common, I'm not sure. Typically, 1/2 tons Chevys had coils standard, leaf optional. GMC's were just the opposite. I can't say if this was the standard for both the LT & Med duty trucks though. As long as the 4x4 swap is clean & factory appearing, I wouldn't think it would hurt the value @ all..... it would possibly add to it. Good luck & share your story as it unfolds.

Re: Greetings from Aledo, TX
I swapped my 68GMC to 4X4, don't know what it did to the dollar value, but it raised the enjoyment level a bunch.

Welcome to the board from South Mississippi. I wouldn't worry as much about value as I would having the truck the way YOU want it.

Looking forward to meeting you fellow Texans! I would like to hear more about the local forum board meetings. Maybe I'll see some of y'all at the Decatur Swap Meet at the end of the month.
