New in Central Illinois
Hey all. I've been lurking here for a while and figured it was about time I introduced myself.
I've got a '64 shortbed stepside that I picked up last summer as a parts hauler for my '51 Chevy car project. It's pretty rough around the edges, but it's mechanically sound. Mostly. My wife and I flew down to Florida to pick it up, then drove it back to Central Illinois, and, while it took us about two days longer than we expected, we got home just fine. We shouldn't have, but we did. This truck has been growing on me ever since. Anyway, you know how it goes. A fix here, an improvement there, and all of a sudden your truck is up on jackstands and you're out of space on your to do list. Picture time! It's still mostly stock. The previous owner swapped the old fleetside bed for a stepside. Still has manual drum brakes, but I put in a dual chamber master cylinder. Engine is a 250 (which I love) with a new 2bbl carb and HEI. I've been working on a T5 swap all winter (EASY swap that I somehow made very difficult). It's all back together, but the input shaft is binding up somewhere, so it's all gotta come back out. The truck. Try to ignore the rust. Almost looks okay from 50 feet. Yeah, the previous owner was a painter. One of my favorites from the last day of driving HEI installation |

Welcome to the board from West Tennessee. You are the best salesman or have the most trusting wife I know of. Mine would have stayed home to answer the phone when I called in that I was broke down. That was a good shot out the windshield. Good luck on both your projects. Post a few of the 51 car we like them too.

Believe it or not, my wife is the one who talked me into buying the truck. I actually had to fight for my turn behind the wheel on the way home. She finished that trip with a very tan left arm and a very pale right arm. She also came out last weekend to help me pull the transmission (thought it was the clutch, but looks like the input shaft is binding), and before that, she helped me rewire the '51. I think she's a keeper. The car Problem Fix As it sits right now. |

Re: New in Central Illinois
Yup. Got the hunter on the passenger door, a wolf's head on the driver's side, Rat Fink on the back of the cab, and foliage/camo on the wheel covers and rear bumper. Used to have the painter's web address on the tailgate, but I sanded that off because I got sick of people asking for price estimates at every other stoplight.
That airbrushing is probably the biggest sticking point on the truck. I think it's a bit much, but I seem to be in the minority. I figure it'll all come off when I do the bodywork anyway, so no harm done. |

Hi there and welcome. I'm in Arcola - just down the road. I'm not too active here because I'm terribly busy, but it's good to see someone close. I have a 71 Cheyenne Super, 68 SWB, 72 SWB Fleet, and 72 Cheyenne Super for parts. The city HATES me.

Yep...I'm a sick man. I have the disease bad enough that I own a 67 Chevy truck and a 68 Chevy truck too.
