Help with rear spring selection

My 65 chevy is in the shop and I'm going to lower it in the rear more but I don't know what size springs to get. I have a 1.5" block between the axle and trailing arm and I want the truck to sit about an inch off the bumpstop AFTER its cut in half. I don't want to do a c-notch because I don't have a good enough welder to weld the frame and I don't want a bolt on. Right now its sitting on the full bumpstops(uncut) and I would like it to sit that low. What springs get a stock suspended truck down that far?

Re: Help with rear spring selection

Early Classic claims a 6" dropped spring will leave 3" from the frame to the axle. Mine came out a little closer to 2.5"(could be the weight of the spray-in liner). They also claim you don't need a notch and there are tons of guys who run this low without a notch. I don't like to baby my truck just because it's low and will probably be installing a notch.

Heres a picture of the rear on the ground and this is about where I want it to sit. What do you think? If you can see on the right side the bumpstop and the spacer above the trailing arm and below the axle.

Re: Help with rear spring selection

You need to cut the bumpstops first and see if you're going to get some more sag still. The bumpstops may be holding the truck up some still. After that, if it doesn't come down any more and you're only going to have 1" of clearance between the axle and the frame, you're GOING to have some serious bottoming out issues. Why don't you want to go with a bolt-in notch? They're just as strong as the weld-ins if done correctly. I've yet to hear of someone who correctly installed a bolt-in notch having issues with their frame.

Re: Help with rear spring selection

I dont have springs in the truck now and the question was what springs can I go with without having to do a notch because I know it can be done to a point with no notch. I don't haul anything or drive it daily but I dont want to go any lower than it is with no springs. I plan on cutting the stops down halfway but I want the truck to be about this low. I will do a notch later when I get a welder to weld it in. And to anwser your question I plan on getting a bolt in just not now. Thats a later install.
