gas pedal loose?

does anyone know how the gas pedal attaches to the floorboard? my pedal sits too low and seems to be somewhat loose from side to side.i like to have the pedal up closer to the brake so i can make a faster transition if i need to stop fast. this is a 77 half ton w/350.
