Replacing Windshield on my '72 Blazer - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My windshield that i have right now is cracked, and found a clean windshield with no cracks from a 68 Truck at the junkyard. They want $75 for it. Do you guys recommend replacing mine with the junk one, or get a new aftermarket one from the glass shops. Thanks, Luis.

Personally, I'd go with a new one and have them install. I'd hate to break the $75 one and have to go get another. I've never installed a windshield before either. How much does the glass shop want to install?

I agree with Bouncytruck! I broke my perfectly good one when I took it out to paint. Got a used one for $50 and broke that. They get brittle with age.

Thanks Bouncy and Elmo for the info. Maybe it is a good idea to install a new one. Even two of my uncles told me to just get a new one because of the same reason. I will have to investigate on the price of a new windshield.

Around here it was a little over a bill with me supplying the new weatherstripping.

Agreed, I gave $130 for mine, tinted, I supplied the gasket, and they did it in MY garage

Shop around, look pitiful when you go to talk to a shop. They buy the glass out of Mexico and pay about $60. for it. IT is not as good as original or our US PPG glass but it is adequate for daily drivers. Make sure they will guarantee that it doesn't leak once done. Some will require that you use THEIR gasket for warranty so ask for clarification. Explain up front that this is NOT a insurance deal as that is where they really make their money so anything they do for you is filler work. If yours has the stainless trim in the gasket, I would definitely have a professional do it~~!
