Got Bags???

**updated! Fully bagged pics are in thread**
Well, thought I'd share the progress of my '67. The rear is bagged and we'll be doing the front this weekend. I've got a few fittings to re-plumb. Found the leaks tonight, shouldn't be hard to fix them. I just need to find that Loctite thread sealer. Local Pep-Boys doesn't stock. Here's the pics, enjoy!
pic of the bag at full lift

pic of truck at full lift in rear

aired out:

I still have some room out back to go lower, as I've only got 1-1/2 blocks. I'm gonna get some 2" blocks and bury the rear another 1/2".

Looks bad ass, wish I was in OT Florida. Suicide doors carries that loctite if nowhere locally has it.

Re: Got Bags???

Looks great! I've got a couple questions for ya. How bad was it to drill the hole for the air fitting for the bag? I was bummed to see that I would have to drill a big hole through that c-notch plate! Also, what size tires are you running on the back? Looks like we'll basically have the same setup (c-notch, bags, 2" blocks), except mine won't be back together until late winter/early spring. Just trying to get an idea of where mine will sit. Oh, what about the bed floor? any issue there yet?

Let's just say the air fitting holes need to be 1" diameter. Drilling through the notch + spring plate + frame + frame brace = 3/4" thick metal. It was the worst part of the whole process. I would have paid $200 to rent a plasma cutter for the day. Drilling the port holes was an absolute PITA.

Or...... you could just flip the bag & the air fitting is now @ the trailing arm which is muuuuuuuuuuch easier to drill through. It worked for me.

??? How? My Slams don't have a center mounting hole in the top of the bag, so I wouldn't have anywhere to put the 3/8x4 bolt. They only have 2 holes about an inch off center if I remember correctly, plus the port.

You rotate the bag so the 'bolts' are centered in each half of the trailing arm. I drilled the mounting holes within a 1/4" of the center seam & drilled a hole for the air fitting/lines. My bolts also go through both the top & bottom of the trailing arm.

FWIW, some newer Firestones are set up for single bolt installations on top & bottom..... others could have a similar arrangement & I welded the seams of my trailing arms w/a 2" bead every 6" or so the length of the arms.

Re: Got Bags???

Wow, that's a great idea SCOTI. Wish I did a little more "thinking outside the box" on that. Hopefully it will save someone else some time and aggravation. I'm happy with the outcome of mine, and it's a super clean install the way I chose, it was just a total PITA. The fitting out of the bag is a MPT by quick-connect 90 ell, and then I'm running the airline straight down the frame-rail so everything is hidden.
With the bag flipped the airline will be running up the trailing arm, no? Do you have any pics of your setup? I'm interested in seeing how the line is ran.

Re: Got Bags???

Front's done!!!!
Mad lift!!

Dumped:

I should have got some pics hitting sides, but it looked like another storm was going to roll in so I put it back in the garage. Man it rides nice!!
Now the only thing left is to install my 2nd Viair 380c compressor. The front really drains the tanks raising it up.

I don't have any pics yet as we were so busy trying to get it done that I forgot to take pics. Basically I'm running the standard upper plates from S.D., lower cups that were cut down to 1" height, Slam RE7 bags, and 4 valves for the front, 2 fills/2 dumps. The valves are mounted behind the front bumper on the bottom of the core support. I need to get you guys some pics of the custom gauge plate I made from scratch. I'll try and post that tomorrow night. It came out looking killer.
