New guy from westcoast

Have a 66 c-10 wondering if a 454 will fit without cutting the inner fenders and will the frame be stong enough to handle the power?

Welcome To The Boards!

If you post your question in the main forum you'll prolly get a response, or you can even try the search function as I'm sure someone else has stuffed a 454 in 60-66 chevy/gmc.

Welcome from Sunny Vacaville in Northern California!!!!

I have never personally done that particular conversion, but a close friend who used to live in the next town over put a 396 in his '65 C10 a few years ago with out cutting anything. the only things he had to modify were the motor mounts and the tranny cross member. (that's because he stuffed a TH400 in where the old 3 spd was) everything else fit like it was made fer it.

As far as the frame being strong enough, I don't think you have to worry about that - these old trucks were built like tanks! The parts that would be directly affected by a change in hp would be the drive shaft, u-joints, carrier bearing (if yours is a long bed), differential & the braking system. Not to mention the front-end & suspension.

However, if you're just talking about installing a stock 454, you probably won't notice a radical change in power from a 350 - although I would replace the u-joints & have the drive shaft ballanced just for drill.

But -if you are thinking about installing a high performance big block, something in the 300+ hp range, then you'll need to engineer the rest of the drive train and suspension accordingly.

Re: New guy from westcoast

welcome to the board. This place is awsome, you will learn a lot.

Its good to see more west coasters here. It seems like in Napa all the 60-66 trucks are all beat down work rigs. Hopefully i can get my running soon and change that!

The 454 will fit in your truck without cutting anything. You just got to get big block towers and mounts. Im dropping a 396 in mine so I have looked into this myself.
