67 burb questions
just saved a 67 burb 4x4 from the crusher and don't really know much about them. Does the front driveshaft always turn, even out of four wheel drive. The truck is all stock, apparently, and has no indicators on the 4 wheel shifter so I'm not sure what position it is in. It has the inline 6, 250 cu., with a 4 speed. It is a half ton.
Was also wondering is I could swap in a mid 70's to mid 80's 3/4 ton axles and suspension without to many modifications to the frame. Does it have to be from another suburban or would a truck work? Thanks in advance. P.S. I also need some tail light lenses if anyone knows where to acquire some.

Re: 67 burb questions
Congrats on the 67 4x4. You have a vehicle with very low production #'s made.
Your transfer case should be a Rockwell 221. Sorry, I don't know the shift pattern. Just guessing it should be one of these 2 patterns. 4H, 2H, N, 4L or 4L, N, 2H, 4H. With your transfer case in Neutral and your hubs unlocked you will be able to rotate the drive shaft by hand. You can easily swap out axles for more modern drivetrane parts. Any 1971-1980+++ truck, blazer, or suburban parts will fit. 71+ will give you front disc brakes. Enjoy your burb.

Re: 67 burb questions
alot of times your front shaft will turn from drag created by the hubs and tcase. they wont be engaged but the oil and grease and goo will rub on the out puts and the hub-stubs and cause the front shaft and axle shafts turn slowly. also be sure that your hubs are unlocking, any grease on the locking hub gut will get crusty and foul very fast and cause it not to dissengage.

Re: 67 burb questions
Thanks for all the advice and welcome guys! Do we have a web page that lists all the production numbers of our burbs?

Re: 67 burb questions
did all these old burbs have wood for the rear cargo area. Mine looks like it had a 3rd seat attached there, too, originally.

Re: 67 burb questions
Welcome and congrats on the 'burb.
That looks like a good project, but that looks to be a 69 or 70 front clip on it. As far as tail light lenses, check with some of the board's vendors....'m sure one of them can help you. |

Re: 67 burb questions
yah the front clip is off of something newer, and apparently the motor is too. I'll have to check tomorrow on the rear marker lights. Does anyone know how to identify the trans? The code on the gloebox door says: 04M20GQ
Thanks for all your help guys!

Re: 67 burb questions
this burb needs a front seat. Will a truck front seat work and, if so, from what years? Also how to I tell if it came with a third seat? Did these old burbs have third seats? Thanks

Re: 67 burb questions
I am pretty sure the truck front seats from the same years are the same. Usually, on the glove box sticker, it will say if the Burb originally had a third seat. All Burbs, from when they started in the 30's were available with the third seat.

Re: 67 burb questions
the code on the glovebox says rear seat eq #04AS3AA. Not sure what that means.
