Stock washer pump ?

Is there a cam or something that should be on the wiper motor that moves the washer pump? Would there be any wiper motors out there that don't have this? i am just trying to figure this out because my pump/motor combo seems to not have any interaction. Given the wear on the shaft that extends toward the wiper motor and the lack of wear on anything on the wiper motor leads me to believe that there should be some thing there to move the shaft on the pump. I have never had the truck together to try the pump but took it apart to check things out and maybe rebuild the pump.

There is a 4 star whell that is used to engage the pump, forgive me it has been a few years since I changed mine. Just go to the parts store and get a new pum. They are like 30 new and are made by anco. It has that cam, the 4 star wheel, to actuate the pump. Plus most of the old pumps are blown any way.

so there is a cam that goes on the wiper motor. Does it press on? Is there any reason mine wouldn't be there?

Mine looks like there is a cap on that shaft. Did these trucks come with out a washer pump?

Can you get the four star wheel or cam. I just went home and pulled the cap off the shaft and it it starting to make sense.

You might be able to get one off of a used motor and pump. As far as I know they were not avaliable new seperately. As to being avaliable without one it seems to me as possible. I wish I had a pic or the one out of my orange and white for comparison. Yah the cam just presses on the shaft, you are supposed to change them when replacing the pump. Since you are a site supporter I would post a wtb for one of those cams if you dont want a new pump. But I almost guarantee you will need a new pump anyway. The seals dry out after quite a few years so they dont work. Your cam also may have just decentigrated, they are made of cheap plastic. I hope this helps.

Get your head out from under the dash ...that's a terrible place to try and work-upside down.

Put an electric pump out on the fender, next to the bottle, and forget that original style.

Is there one simple wire I would run from the switch to the new pump under the hood next to the bottle to get it to squirt when I hit the stock switch on the dash?

There are actually 2 wires. It is easy and well worth the effort.

You could also go to any junkyard and find a foreign car with the pump mounted on the bottle. Probably cost you $5 and it's an easy hookup. I'm almost positive there's a writeup in the FAQ section. Unfortunately, I don't have time to look right now.

Pickmup would that pump work if it was mounted under the dash to keep it stock looking?

Elec pumps work best if mounted as close as possible to the bottle and lined up with the lower portion. This keeps them primed.

I used a washer bottle from a mid 90's S-10 and it fit great in the passenger side fender area.

Ok, I saved this from another board member MTDave2 who actually wrote it up. I did a search but couldn't find it. Anyhoo, here ya go:

Just go to your fav parts place and ask for the universal windshield washer pump. make sure its the type you can mount to the fire wall. it comes with the pump, some extra washer hose, connectors and electrical connectors.

You dont need the kit that has the switch in it, you can use the orginal switch. the kit should cost about 12 bucks.

Mount the thing on the fender or on the fire wall. I have been told the fire wall works better because the pump is hight than the resevior, but I have never had any trouble.

Next just do the plumbing, be sure to pay attention to the out and in on the pump. I had to use some hose clamps to keep it from dripping.

Next run 2 wires from the pump into the cab. now is the tricky part. took me a few hours the frist time to figure it out, tore the dash off and everything. dont need too.

From the drivers side lay on the floor and look up under the dash, you will see the big wiper motor, if you wanna find it fast just turn on the wipers, lol -you'll hear it.

There are 2 electrical pulgs on the unit. you are looking for the one with 2 wires. The first pict is what it looks like unplugged.

I find the best thing is to yank the plug with some pliers. The connector doesnt want to come loose very easy. so just wiggle and yank. I have yet to do it by hand, always have used the pliers.

Once wired, you need to check to see if you have it wired right. Just hit the button, if it doesnt work, swap the wires in the plug.

Thats all there is to it. It works a h*ll of alot better than the orginal one. they make a rebuild kit, but after a few years the darn thing stops working..

I do this to every truck. HEI and a universal pump -every truck needs one! One more thing about plumbing -the hoses that used to run the water to the pump in the cab aren't needed now. You can cut those hoses.

It ends up like this: water starts at the resevoir, runs to the pump, out from the pump to a T connecter (in the kit) then each side of the T, runs dirctly to the squirter things. That leaves you with hoses coming from the fire wall. I just pull them back into the cab and trim them as high as I can.

If you have an a/c truck, it's a bit harder to get to the pump, its there, you just have to dig.
