Power steering pump help?????
This may be a dumb question, but that has never stopped me before . I have swapped my SB350 for a BB468. I am buttoning everything up and I can't fit the power steering pump from the 350 onto the BB! The holes look like they line up, but maybe it's just the bracket??? I am hoping like heck that SB and BB P/S pumps aren't different. But then again, I had no idea that SB and BB motor mount brackets were different until just last week Any feedback on the P/S pump issue greatly appreciated.
Thanks Jesse

Re: Power steering pump help?????
Go get these at the dealership. I'm using them on my 72. They are about $35 or so.

Re: Power steering pump help?????
Yes, same resivour(SP?) and pump can be used. You just need the right brackets.
*EDIT** One other thing that might get you is the later year pumps used an "O" ring style seal compared to the earlier "Flare" style seal. Last edited by ratrod67; 11-22-2006 at 11:26 AM. |

Re: Power steering pump help?????
there is absolutely NO difference in the pumps between a small block or a big block for our model trucks, the difference is in the brackets ONLY.
early style (late 50's thru mid 60's) pumps had 3/4" in shafts with NO keyway and the pulleys were pressed on. later (mid 60's up) style pumps had a 1/8" keyway in the pulley ... unsure of shaft size, this was pretty much the standard pump until GM went to the serpentine pulley/belt system ... and some claim the only difference then was the pulley, I can't say. I have a ZOOP'S press on 3/4" shaft single groove pulley if you are interested, it is polished billet FORGED aluminum , not the Cheap Chinese cast version. Let me know if you're interested & I can get you a pic or two. Last edited by Shane; 11-22-2006 at 04:57 PM. |

Re: Power steering pump help?????
Novajess,,,dont mean to hijack, been watching & learning thru your questions,,I'm doing the sbc to bbc swap right now myself,,,just ordered the brackets that RatRod mentioned,,from GMPartsDirect.com,,,$23.83 +$12.21 for handling ,,,thought this might help you out ?
I'm using the P.O.L. motor mount stands,,the motor mount themselves are $7.95 each at O'Reilly,,,part # Anchor 2267,,,however I havent got them installed yet,,waiting on some parts for the rat motor.May have some clearance issues too? Hope this helps out ? Thanks RatRod & everbody for the good info. JFD |
