Another split rim Question
I have a whole stack of extra split rim wheels with tires mounted in my barn. I use these for dragging home trucks on a dolly that have bad wheels/tires . first what causes the rings to come off. second question is- are they dangerous to remove from the tire if I just wanted to demount them from the rim. Is the only danger upon reinflating? I have a manual tire remover but didn't want to mess with them from all the danger warnings I hear!
Thanks Solver

Re: Another split rim Question
if the ring is on htere, and has been there for years like yours (probably) have been... then they are perfectly safe. They won't blow off.
If you know how to remove them, then they can be removed safely. Even if you don't know what you are doing, a bleeding shin is about all the damage it'll do. Upon inflating, if you don't have a cage... don't even attempt it. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 11-25-2006 at 11:14 PM. |

thanks for the info Longhorn man
Once tire is deflated what is the process for removing the locking ring so the tire can be removed?

Re: Another split rim Question
it has been over 10 years since I have touched one... I'll let some one with a slightly fresher memory chime in. I'd hate to miss a step and cause you to bleed all over your shoes.

Re: Another split rim Question
the trick is to get somebody else to do it and stand a little distance away. I am not afraid of much but careful
