Block numbers and input on a build
So I have this block number 397 9918 Is it a 350 or a 305 block I don't have a chart or anything so I have no Idea. Or there is a number 41 next it printed on the block.
So I am currently building my 4-wheel drive and I got this for the build rv2 cam edlebrock performer intake HEI distributor, edelbrock 650 carb. I understand this is about a 300 horsepower build. Am I right?? Or what should I expect. I have all the stuff needed to tune it right. What can I expect guys. Haven't been on in a long time.

http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm (for casting numbers)
Depends on cam specs, head, and such. Good start though.

Re: Block numbers and input on a build
I didn't see your number block on the list. Anyway, a 350 with smog type big chamber heads, flat top pistons, decent rv cam, your mentioned induction, and some headers should make 300hp or close. More important is that it'll have good low end torque for your 4x4.

Re: Block numbers and input on a build
The intake and carb choice are fine. I'm not sure what the "RV2" cam is - do you have specifics? 300 HP will require 9.2 - 9.5 CR and some fairly decent heads.

Re: Block numbers and input on a build
that casting number isn't on the list.... but another place you can also look on the block is on either side of it....there should be a 3 digit casting number...what would also help is if you could describe it a little more....like what year the vehicle it came out of was....as for the parts you have...should make a nice motor...we just resently put a Lunati RV2 cam in a friend of mine's truck and although it sounded stock it was far from it....it is a 4X4 with a 4spd and he can light up 35's though all 4 gears.... not to meantion pulling a loaded semi out of amuddy field.... :nut:

Re: Block numbers and input on a build
nice lurch thanks guys for the info. Yah I don't know the specs but the heads are 194's that's all I know. Yah it's a fully locked up 4-wheel drive lurch blazer. And I found the block it's a 350. Putting new crank bearings in tomorrow and putting it all back together and in the truck hopefully have it running by midnight.
