What to do....
Well i have been thinking about what i would like to power my truck. As some on you know i am doing an all out custom truck. I was thinking about buying an LS1 motor and trans to put in the truck. Then i got to thinking. Is that to common. I know alot of people are starting to put the new gen motors in the trucks. Should i do something creative with the 350 that the truck came with? It came with a LT1 350 4 barrel carb and a trubo 350 trans. What could i do to that 350 block to give it that WOW look i am trying to get or is the 350 such a common motor that it would be hard to do. For the sake of this conversation lets say if i did the LS swap it would cost about 3k give or take. What could i do for a similiar amount with the 350? Help me get creative!
Josh

Re: What to do....
Turbo definitely has the wow factor. Turbo LS1. Now you're talkin'.
I think to really get noticed for youe engine, you're gonna have to go LS style or something like a RamJet 502. The SBC has been done every way you can imagine.

Re: What to do....
if its WOW factor you want I have some ideas. furd 460 on 6 psi boost, Buick nailhead, Duramax, etc.
the possibilities are endless. and having a livingroom sized engine bay helps. I went for the wow thing with a 40 Plymouth 2 dr sedan I used to have. a 57 Chevy 235 punched .080 with injection from a ford 4.9 6 cyl. now that made people scratch heads wondering WTF is that? |

Re: What to do....
Your going through what I went through a while back. I put an LS1 in my 82 Blazer a few years ago when it was still uncommon. Now they are rather common, so the "wow" factor has diminished. It's still a good conversion, just don't expect anyone to get excited about it. Even supercharged, and turbo'ed versions are getting to be common.
I looked at dual and triple carbs, super chargers, turbo's, etc. I finally came up with running the Ramjet 350 once Roger at Stoked Out convinced me he could make it look different. Every time I take it out, I still have people ask me what it is....

Re: What to do....
Of course with the right amount of "accessories" an LS1 can still create a stir...

Looks like a flathead with an ardun head conversion. You are gonna say more than wow when you find out how much one of those babies is going to set you back.

The late Ermie Emerso had a 32 Ford Highboy that he showed the ISCA circuit with. Not only did he have a blown flathead with the Ardun conversion heads on it, he used 4 spare Ardun heads to set his car on. One went under each tire. Now that's flaunting your collection...

Re: What to do....
I get people here in town stop me at the gas station asking if this is the truck with the caddy 500 in it at least once a month. Enough ppl know, and tell there friends, and they want to see, and then they tell there friends...etc. Low buck, lotsa torque, and as far as I know, there's only 2 in the area of well over a million people. I'm sure there's one or two more in town, but not many.

Re: What to do....
My idea that I probably won't do but would like to see done is a Cadillac Northstar set in one of these trucks. Incredible power in stock form and definately has a major wow factor. Beautiful engine to me. Even more wow with a supercharger on top of it.

Re: What to do....
Yeah it's a flathead with Ardun conversion. Nice in a ford roadster, not in a Chevy truck...
I always like the looks of a small block with an Inglese induction setup. Don't know how they'd work out on the street but they sure look good. Then you could always put on a blower, mini blower. Folks look at you wondering what that whine is.

Re: What to do....
Run the LT1 since you already have it and run a twin screw style supercharger on top of it with maybe the vintage front runner pulley kit. Would look nice I think and debur your entire block with a die grinder and smooth out all of the casting on the block. Would look nice.

Re: What to do....
Thanks for all the ideas! I love a few of those motors! I have always been a big fan of turbo charge motors. The down side to that is it can get expensive really fast. Would be sweet though. I thought about a big block but not sure if that is the route i want to go. When i do my chevelle it is definately goint to have a 502 ramjet but for my truck i like the look of small blocks. I am a little wierd . N2TRUX- I really like the two motors. I thought the one in your truck was done very nice and that pic you posted is sweet! DUEL 72- I am going to look into that cadillac northstar motor you are talking about. Haven't seen one yet. I found this pic of an LS2 with stacks on top. I thought it looked sweet! What do you all think?

And Josh, I'm willing to bet a punch in the daddy parts, if you run the numbers, I'll bet it is just a run of the mill 350. I am almost certian that none of the lt1 engines were blue. |

Re: What to do....
it will probably be on the pricey side but i dont think many people have swapped the terminator engines (03/04 cobra) much. it's also a ford but they can easily make 600+ hp. that would turn a few heads.

No....dont listen to any of them.
Find a newer 8.1 and have someone build you one of them pretty fabricated aluminum intakes for it. Yeah, I need a towel just thinking about that.
