Difference Between 2x4 and 4x4 Frames-

Hi Guys-

We were just wondering if anyone knew of any differences between a two wheel drive frame and a four wheel drive frame from 73-87? Can a two wheel drive frame be converted over to a four wheel dirve?

By the way, Great Site!

Re: Difference Between 2x4 and 4x4 Frames-

One can be converted to a 4x4 but you just about need another 4x4 for the parts and you could just use that frame.Easiest to just look for a cheap 4x4 chassis and put the body off your truck on it.
Welcome to the site btw

Re: Difference Between 2x4 and 4x4 Frames-

i'll be doing this swap soon. I'll be making a 2wd 3/4 ton pickup into a 3/4 ton 4x4 with a parts suburban. I'll also be converting to a TBI system. I'll be making a similar thread to this one on my project. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=168231

BTW, welcome
Brian

Re: Difference Between 2x4 and 4x4 Frames-

I am going to be doing this swap soon with a crew cab. It has a one ton dimension frame(taller and thicker steel than a standard 1/2 or3/4 ton frame even though it is a C-20. I have a 4x4 frame to rob all the crossmembers off of as well as the steering box and motor mounts and such. The main thing is keep good measurements for mounting the front spring rear trunions in and you will need to remove your rear spring hangers and use the ones off of a 4x4 in the rear. Has anyone done a swap like the one I am doing? What did you do about the taller frame? Hey Taz if you run into a snag let me know and maybe I can help out. They say two heads are better than one. I am going to be doing this swap starting real soon. I have converted several two wheel drives to four wheel but usually started with a four wheel frame. Merry Christmas
