Big Brakes on '69 Chevy?
I am looking to put some big Wilwood or Baer brakes on the front of my project '69 Chevy SWB. I have tryed to find some kits for it but nobody seems to have anything that will work. Has anybody done this? Any suggestions?

I never understood why those systems are so expensive. I would love to know how much they cost to manufacture. I bet the markup is HUGE.
For anybody that has already researched this, what is the least expensive "bigger" brake kit that you have found? I know there are a few brands out there that your not paying for the name "baer." Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Baer is top-quality stuff, but maybe a little overpriced?? What do you guys think? |

I am with you guys. I wouldnt think it would cost that much more to manufacture the bigger brake stuff than it does the smaller stuff. I would like to find a cheaper way to do it.

The calipers used in those kits are just a standard PBR dual piston used on Camaros, Mustangs and Corvettes = Easy to find. The problem is finding a 5x5 big rotor. If you could score some 13" blanks and have them drilled, you would be halfway there. I've put some thought into this and think this would be a decent DIY brake setup:
1) Drill rotors for bolt pattern. 2) Machine down your current rotor/bearing assembly to act as a mounting hub for the new rotor. 3) Fab a bracket to mount the caliper to the spindle. 4) Enjoy! This is how the '64-73 Mustang guys adapt the late model Cobra stuff. Cobra brakes are twin-pot PBR calipers and 13" Baer rotors. This is also a cheap way to get rotors, as a lot of the late model Cobra guys upgrade to cross-drilled/slotted and basically give away their stockers. You will need at least a 17" wheel. Give it a shot. I've got one too many irons on the fire as it is... -Chris

I don;t have a quick diy for the front but I do for the rear! Take a 99-03 S-10 Blazer mounting bracket, aluminum caliper, a set of mid 90's Impala five on five rotors and you are ready to go. The brackets have to be spaces 3/4 inch of the axle flange. Spacers such as washers work fine. It gives you 12 inch rear dsic brakes with aluminum calipers for around 100 bucks from a junkyard. The kit works on both 10 and 12 bolt gm rears
