Engine numbers!

Does any one have a good site to figure out engine Serial Numbers?I have run mine and it is saying the engine is a 307 or a 350 but the sites I go to are not real clear,I do know that the engine was re built and am asuming it is not the original from what the LMC catalog is showing.
