Re: blast or dip
I would highly recomend to NOT acid dip your cab or any other body part. Just like you said the acid gets into the seams and every little nook and cranny and seeps out over time and will definitely ruin your paint job. When looking for someone to blast it for you, don't take it to someone that uses silica sand. The reason for that is the silica becomes imbeded into the metal and can react with some primers, resulting in a ruined paint job.
I have a good friend who has an abrasive blasting business that does blasting for all the big restoration shops in this area. What he uses for his blast media is copper slag....it's black in color, and doesn't leave any residue to react with the primer. Also it isn't as hazardous as silica sand.....breathing too much airborne silica can kill ya! Sorry I can't help you with finding someone in your area, but I thought I'd let you know what I know about the two processes. Last edited by Captainfab; 03-17-2007 at 12:06 AM. |
