8 lug back spacing questions??
I have a 69 3/4 ton and it currently has 16 two peice snap ring wheels. I want plain old tubeless steel wheels. My question is what do it need to look for as far as with and back spacing? I would like to go with a little wider than stock and with the backspacing sticking the wheel just a bit farther out than stock. Can any one help me please, I have looked around the net and also called summit and asked about cragar steel wheels and they dont know what fits. Every place i call locally ( hickory nc) wants close to 200 for a set of used plain 16 inch wheels and summit wants 230 shipped for new wider wheels but im not sure they will fit. Let me know if any one has any info.
Thanks, Darrell |

Re: 8 lug back spacing questions??
i think the back spacing for a 69 is 3.5inches standard for a 8inch wide rim. I have a 1970 and have 3.5 in the front and 4.5 in the back. my front wheels are 8inch wide, and the back are 10inch. so its really going to depend on how wide of rims your going to run. if your going to run 8inch wide rims i would stick with 3.5inch.

Re: 8 lug back spacing questions??
Is the stock wheel 6.5 inches wide? If i get an 8 inch wide wheel will the backspacing be ok at 4.5 inches all the way aroud, or will it hit the front tie rods? I dont know if it matters but i have drum brakes at all 4 corners.
Thanks again...Darrell |

Re: 8 lug back spacing questions??
it will all depend on how big and wide the tires are. i would think if you went 4.5 all around, and didnt get to wide of tires you should be fine. if you get to tall of tires they may rub when turn sharp.

Re: 8 lug back spacing questions??
if you want the tires to stick out, I would go with a 3.5 backspacing and not 4.5. 4.5 is going to keep the wheel closer in and if your going a little wider tire and stay the same height they may rub if you use 4.5.

What size tire are you planning to run?
I'm running 275/70's on 16x8" with 4" of backspacing. There is plenty of room to run more backspacing. 4.5" BS wouldn't be a problem. |
