Just bought a '62--couple questions...
First off--What's the difference between the basic heater and the deluxe heater? And secondly--Will a '71-'72 rearend bolt right into one of these? I see that the trailing arms are listed '60-'72. Is there anything else that I should know before I go scavenging for one? Any help is much appreciated!!

The fresh air heater has the heater core and the fan in the engine compartment. This type works best in colder climates. The recirculating heater has everything under the dash. That design was intended for climates where it doesn't get very cold....they don't do a very good job of keeping the windows de-iced and fog free.
The 71-72 rearends are IIRC about 1 1/2" wider than the 60-66 rears. And I think the trailing arm perches on the 60-62 rears are spaced wider than the 63-72's. Other than that they will fit.....just some minor things. |

I don't think the trailing arm perches are spaced differently on '60-'62 rearends. Don't have any proof since I got rid of my '62 frame, but I'm pretty sure the perch locations are all the same.

the perches are six inches farther out.you can get new perches from early classic.

The trailing arm mounts on a '60-'62 IS 2 inches closer to the brake drum backing plates. On the '63-'66 the trailing arm mounts are 2 inches closer to the 3rd member(pumpkin). I had to install a '65 C10 rearend in my '62, in one day I had swapped axles, bled brakes, and down the road I went.
*note* I cut off the '65 trailing arm mounts in advance very carefully, I also prepped the axle tubes for welding. The day of the swap, I cut off the panhard bar mount off of the '62 rearend carefully(once removed from truck. Once I had the '65 rearend loosely mounted, I took a million measurements, then tacked everything together. Once I was satisfied, I welded everything solid. When welding the brackets on the rear axle, weld in short runs, to stop distortion/warping from happening. I also reccommend replacing the big "U" bolts that holds the rear axle to the trailing arms. You might have to cut the old ones out. David

I have a 62 and all I know is that my "66" wihch I found out was on a 62 LWB frame then made a SWB frame and not very good at that the rear end went out and I stumbled upon a 68?? I think but it had 6 lug axles wished it was 5 lug but I bolted it right in and never had a problem
