5 to 6 lug 2wd
IM looking to make my 1986 sliverado 2wd a 6 lug 2wd instead of the 5 lug.
Reason i have a very nice set of aluminum rims from a 1989 jimmy that was 4x4 6lug. I like the rims and I thought if i could make my truck a 6 lug id be set. I know i should probly just buy a set of 5 lug rims and call it a day but it more of just is it posable. Heres a set up i was looking at:http://performanceonline.com/store/c...at=1077&page=1 Before shipping cost would be around 649.10 So you guys tell me is this even posable?

Re: 5 to 6 lug 2wd
Cantcha just swap rotors? I mean teh disc brakes are already there, and by the description from teh website it seems the only thing different are rotors.

Re: 5 to 6 lug 2wd
Id do that but i cant seem to find a 6 lug 2wd front end anywhere. I find out the older truck back in the 70s had 6 lug 2wd but can find it in my year.

Re: 5 to 6 lug 2wd
Got any friends at the local parts store? Ask the guy/chick at the counter to look through their computer system and see if they can find ya something that'll work.

Re: 5 to 6 lug 2wd
Okay, IIRC some 3/4-ton Chevy trucks have 6-lug rotors and axles, so go to the parts store and look for rotors for an '85 C20.

Re: 5 to 6 lug 2wd
Yep, C20 is a 2wd truck, K20 would be the 4x4 one.

Re: 5 to 6 lug 2wd
As far as I know the 6 lug 2 wheel drive didnt come along until 1988 when the body changed . I had a 1998 2500 series light duty that was 6 lug . They made them for about 10 years . I dont know how hard the task will be though since the spindles are probably different sizes . You could have your rotors redrilled to the 6 on 5.5" pattern and find a 4x4 rear axle . Frank

That an idea too i have an extra front end set up from my old c10, but were would i go to get this drilled? And how much might this go for? Also what all involved in this, I know they have to drill the rotor and also I guess a plate the stud mount to. (as you can tell iv never takin a front rotor off of a 2wd anything) As for the rear i have a 10 bolt 6 lug rear from a 1989 jimmy but Im think about trading my 1 ton 4x4 axels for a 6 lug 12 bolt rear with 373 gears. Is this a good trade or would selling them be better off?

Re: 5 to 6 lug 2wd
I would not recommend re-drilling the rotors as there are special reinforcement ribs on the inside surface of the rotor's hub where the studs go through. I'd say get a pair of digital calipers and when you go to the store measure ask for a rotor and bearings for yer truck and also a rotor and bearings for an '88 2wd 3/4-ton Chevy (believe that would be a C2500), and measure and compare them very carefully.

I can not see any way that converting to 6 lug is going to be a better solution than selling those wheels and buying 5 lug wheels. Don't try to reinvent the wheel, just replace it with what you need.

Re: 5 to 6 lug 2wd
I guess ill do that I thought it was inpossable or just not worth it. I just really like the rims that were onthe jimmy and couldnt find a set in 5 lug.
The rims were the 6 hole kind that was factory back in the day but these were aftermaket, they were simalar but not exact.

Re: 5 to 6 lug 2wd
Well you ask here are the rims
As you can see theyer nice rims and that why i originally wanted to use them but if selling them would be easier and fast then changing the lug pattern. I guess i sell them here (as in my town) locally then.

Re: 5 to 6 lug 2wd
Good point. Ok, one more shot at this. Try American Eagle wheels.
They offer the Eagle Alloy 058 in a 5 lug-
