Interior light help

I have a 72 Blazer CST with the single wall hardtop with interior lights. The way it works now is, the lights under the dash come on when the door is opened, and the hartop lights come on when the headlight switch is turned all the way to the left. Is this how it is supposed to work? My K5 has some "custom" wiring from the PO. I think they should all come on when the door is opened or the switch is on. Can anyone with a stock Blazer tell me how there's works? Thanks for any responses.

Re: Interior light help

IIRC, Yours is correct, doors activate underdash lighting, knob does the top

Re: Interior light help

The under dash lights are call courtesy lights. They were an option, but you can buy repops. The dome light on the hard top is only controlled by turning on the interior lights with the headlight switch. I'm sure with some more creative wiring you could get the dome light to come on with the door pins.

Re: Interior light help

That is correct. But you can turn the courtesy lights on when the door is shut with the light switch . This is on a truck with no dome lights. I would believe it would be as simple as pig tailing the dome light to the courtesy lights. That is what I am going to attempt. My wife wants more light at night for the kids

Re: Interior light help

Thanks for the info . I guess my truck is corrrect. I'm going to wire it up so all the lights come on when the door opens.
