Retrofitting 73-87 with power windows and locks
I am still shopping for a truck. Is it a huge job to retrofit ? Any estimated cost for parts. If it is difficult , I will look for a factory equiped truck, but that leaves out 80 % of the trucks for sale in this area. Thank's John.

What are you putting the power windows and locks into. Cause the 80s truck had power.
If your trying to make your putting power windows and lock in a truck that had that stuff those years id find a truck with it in a yard and take the parts needed to make mine powered. know if your say trying to make an 71 or 712 a powered truck i have no idea.

Thank's for the info. 73 and later is my new target. I sold my 71 and not going back to that body style. John.

77-87 trucks came with PW/PL's, the 73-76 did not. It is not hard to retrofit, and you should be able to get all the parts from local salvage yards fairly cheap...I would guess around $100. I often see complete doors for sale with all the guts for anywhere from $150-300 a set...depending on condition.

My 81 has power everything in the doors. I hate it. Over the last 5 years it seems like im always fixing something. When I do the body on my truck and replace the doors im planning on replaceing them with manual windows and locks so I dont have to frig with them anymore.
The junkyard doors that I have looked at are not worth putting on a truck. Am wondering if I can just buy new doors and all the aftermarket parts for in them? Or do I have to buy junkyard manual doors to get certain parts? Like I know companies like LMC sell a lot of parts for doors but do the sell all of the parts I will need? |
