Shorten truck frame or convert blazer frame to 2wd?
Ok,so I'm working on a deal for a blazer tub and the frame comes with it...The bad part is that the frame is toast. There is another frame that could be used but I was also considering just shortening a 2wd truck frame.
So... y'all think I would be better off trying to convert the 4wd blazer frame to 2wd,add a rear coil suspension and bolt in a 2wd front suspension or....Take a 2wd truck frame, shorten it,add the blazer body mounts and then the chassis portion is complete enough that the tub can go on? Now....I have the tools to make it happen either way but which do you think would be better/easier? Last edited by 1969k10stepside; 05-16-2007 at 10:46 PM. |

Re: Shorten truck frame or convert blazer frame to 2wd?
I would think converting the 4wd would be easier.
That said, I would love to see you shorten the 2wd pickup frame and add the Blazer mounts. That would make a great FAQ thread.

Re: Shorten truck frame or convert blazer frame to 2wd?
Neither yet. There is the one under it that is toast, and then I have the option of getting another 4wd Blazer frame to use.Why oh why did I get rid of my extra 2wd truck frame...So,if I was going to use a truck frame,I would have to get one from a local junkyard. So,no matter what I have to buy one..Its just a matter of cutting, shortening, welding it,etc or converting the blazer frame, drilling holes, bolting in crossmembers, etc

Well, tomorrow I'm going to the junkyard to price a frame to use.Not just going to get the frame though, the whole chassis. Also going to look at a '67 front clip to possibly use..

Shortening a frame and adding mounts is not hard either. I'd probably go that route.

Which is easier I would have to say the 4x4 blazer frame conversion is easier. But if you have the skills, tools, time, truck frame, then I say go for it.
THis might help also. http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/framespecs.html

Re: Shorten truck frame or convert blazer frame to 2wd?
If your looking to go low the I would suggest converting the 4x frame...with the area where the front crossmember goes in for 2wd being 1" higher on the 4x frame its like a 1" z without cutting anything.
