Taigate Idea
So I heard a guy tell me that he's heard of people using a seat belt buckle welded on both sides of the inside of the STEPSIDE tail gate to lock the tailgate closed and get rid of the chain. Don't know if this would work on the fleetside at all. Seems like a cool idea to be a little different.
Anyone ever heard of this, done it, or have any pics? thx

Check out this link: http://www.persh.org/Pickup/IdeaPage.htm
There are several ideas, including the seat belt option on the tailgate of a fleetside bed. |

Re: Taigate Idea
I did it to my 61 back in highschool (15 years ago...). It works, but there are nicer options IMO.

Re: Taigate Idea
Mar-K makes a folding linkage for fleetsides and for stepsides that holds the tailgate level when you open it and folds inside the tailgate end when you close it. No matter what you use for a latch, you may still need a way to keep the tailgate from dropping when you open it. Installation instructions online http://www.mar-k.com/installation_hints.html, click on "tailgate link assembly instructions" that applies to your truck.

I don't know which ones SIR used, but the 88 and up chevy cables should be the correct length. Jerry
