Frame Question
I have a 72 LWB 1/2 ton that I'm converting to a shortbed. I'm looking at a 72 SWB frame that is already painted with all new bushings, bearings, ball joints, lowering kit, the whole works ready to drop a motor in. The question is, there is an extra crossmember between the front crossmember and the transmission crossmember. The truck was a manual trans truck with a straight 6. Thanks for any info. Sully

Re: Frame Question
No crossmembers between the motor mount/front suspension crossmember and the tranny crossmember originally to my knowledge

Re: Frame Question
That is what I thought also. This extra crossmember looks factory and is riveted in just like it belongs there. I can't see where any else would bolt to it? Thanks

Re: Frame Question
Can you get a pic? There is the front crossmember like a "V" and then the front suspension/motor mounts and then there is the tranny crossmember, thats all of the ones I know in that area

Re: Frame Question
I agree, i swapped a motor in a '66, with manual trans, i6 to v8, it didn't have a cross member between motor mounts and trans crossmember.

Re: Frame Question
I'll try to get a pic tomorrow. I've been reading this board for a few years now and the amount of info that is available here is priceless. Thanks Sully

Re: Frame Question
I remember a thread about this a few months back.It seems to me there was a case where there was an extra crossmember there but I can't remember any details.I'd try a search to see what turns up.

Re: Frame Question
That is the one. I will probably remove it. I can't see why I would need it for an automatic transmission. Thanks
