Is this a fair price?

A guy is selling a tailgate for a 72 fleetside brand new take off... has been in his attic for thirty years. He says mint condition like brand new. He is asking $350. What should I offer him or is this a fair price?

Re: Is this a fair price?

Always offer less, but that's a steal if it really is rust/dent free! I've seen really nice ones (original) sell for 500+

Re: Is this a fair price?

There's a GMC gate on Ebay now for $300 Buy it Now price with dings on the inside and a hole drilled in it. If it's perfect i could see it going for more than 350.
Edit: There was a GMC unit on the boards a while back, it turned into a bad deal but people were jumping at it for $400 plus shipping.

BUY IT!! If you don't buy it let me know where it is. I think at $350 it's a great deal.

Re: Is this a fair price?

Are you planning on using it or re-selling it? If you are going to use it $300. - $350. would be a great buy, if you are trying to get it to make a few bucks I would offer him a little less. Here in the great northwest, I recently sold two original paint take off tailgates pictured below for $550. & $600. apiece with no effort at all, a true take off condition gate will sell itself. Good luck on your purchase - they are getting harder to find these days, C.B.

Re: Is this a fair price?

I've never had one of these trucks with a tailgate.I guess I know one of the reasons now.The two above are certainly nice examples.Too bad the manufacturers haven't deemed it worthwhile to repro a quality gate that doesn't fold in half when you set on it.With the pricing on repops you would think they could build a better gate.

Re: Is this a fair price?

I agree with most I say it is a GR8 deal! I have seen some go for upwards of $800 I would not pay that much but, some do.
