Satellite radio Question?

I was thinking of running sat. radio in my truck and running to an amp and out to speakers.. I don't really want a head unit, just hidden sat controls behind radio delete plate. I just realized I couldn't really control the volume this way. Does anyone have any suggestions to control volume?

What do you currently have for a radio? The reason I ask is that there are basically 2 different ways to hook up a satellite radio-FM Modulated or through a direct connection from a satellite tuner to your receiver.

The FM Modulated way is by far the easiest, but in the same breath your sound quality is only as good as FM radio. Direct connection is more expensive, but will give you better sound quality.

If you're just running the stock AM radio, you may be out of luck, unless you do some type of retrofitting to hook it up. There is a thread somewhere on here where someone took the AM radio and made it MP3 compatible. Depending on your electrical know-how, that may be a viable option for you.

I currently don't have a radio at all, But I have a radio delete plate which I'm thinking of using to cover the sat radio face. I read that thread about the am radio and like it a lot, but I think I would like to run a Sat radio somehow.

I'm going to assume that you are running a seperate, portable module.

What you have to remeber is that these modules do not have a digital signal output. Many of them rely on FM modulation or an analog connection to carry their signal.

What you would have to do is get a cord with a headphone jack on one end and a set of RCA's on the other and use that as the signal to an amp which will run the speakers.

I don't see why it wouldn't work? Both of the satellite radio receivers I own have an audio out jack and a volume control on them. You should be able to run that directly into the amp and use the volume control on the satellite receiver.

imm runnin xm thru my indash it plus it plugs right in but draw back i wish my screen took sirrus because xm sucks i hear the same songs atleast 3-4 times a day

I have one of the Custom Autosound crappy radios. I almost junked it last year when the FM stopped working. But I was happy this year that I had the ability to direct connect my XM Sat through the jacks in teh back. Now I only use the radio for AM sports talk and use the XM for music and news. I would really like to have a factory radio with imput jacks installed, but that is too high $$ for me right now.
