Building a 70's "race" truck - NEED INPUT!
Hi guys! Thanks for a good site!
I am building a early 70's "racing truck replika" on a budget. With base in stockcars etc from the era. The truck is a 72 C-20 402/400, used to have rusty rocker panels, floors and cab fasteners -not anymore. I'll paint it matte black with hugger orange "SS" striping. I'll also add a roll cage with tubes through the rear cab wall, down to the bed floor. And ofcourse the stock 402 needs a fendershaker cam + headers. I also have a set of slotmags for it. Now good folks, as I live in Norway where motorsports never have been the politically correct hobby , I need some input how to make the truck really look like a blast from the past. What kind of stickers/decor and where to find it. And ofcourse ideas of other modifications. Also it would be nice with some photos of race cars/trucks fron late 60's - early 70's. I have not found a lot of this on the net. What do YOU think? I'm listening.. Hoping 4 help! Thanks in advance Snorre, Norway

Sounds like a fun plan. I'll let others chime in on your questions about era correct photos and decals.
Welcome to the board!

Re: Building a 70's "race" truck - NEED INPUT!
in the 60's and 70's there were very few race trucks a couple of wheelstanders and some offroad desert racin trucks plus a handfull of 20's-40's drag trucks mostly willys no circle track stuff no demo derbys . back then trucks were work vehicles// heck in the 60's some car shows wouldn't even let you enter a truck in the show

this sounds like a great idea. I had a thought like this one time. be sure to share your progress when you get started. as far as decals go you should be able to find decal packages in any type racing magazine or racing catalog.

Re: Building a 70's "race" truck - NEED INPUT!
There's a great article in Car Craft this month on this exact topic - pick one up!
I'd also search on "pace car" or "pace truck" - there were some pics/background posted on a '72 (I think) pace truck that might give you some ideas. |
